About W.A.D.E.

Who we are

The Waterford Alcohol and Drug Education (WADE) Coalition is a town wide coalition of parents, youth, schools, police officers and other community leaders working together to end underage substance abuse and foster the healthy development of Waterford’s youth.

Our Goals

Using the Strategic Prevention Framework planning process, the WADE coalition seeks to combat underage alcohol use, drug use and other high risk behaviors by:

  • Educating the community about the risks and consequences of underage substance abuse while fostering an ongoing community conversation.
  • Strengthening families by providing the information and tools needed to encourage communication and increase family supervision of youth.
  • Partnering with community youth service agencies to provide alcohol and drug free alternate activities in order to promote a healthy and safe lifestyle.
  • Enforcing consequences of illegal activities which may promote underage substance abuse and risky behavior in youth.
  • Building a strong grass-roots community coalition in order to become an agent in community change and to provide a one stop resource center for youth and families.

Our Funding

The WADE Coalition receives the majority of its funding from a Drug Free Communities federal grant from the Office of Drug Control Policy and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration/Center for Substance Abuse Prevention.
